Keep Getting Cannot Start Application when i launch the parsec

Anyone else having this issue? (using windows 8.1)

This is typically a problem caused by Microsoft's ClickOnce software which is used by Parsec and CodePlex to offer installation and auto updates.

The problem arises when ClickOnce determines there is a mismatch between its file manifest and the files on your system. The file manifest is a list of files for the application and if it or any of the files get corrupted or deleted you will get the mismatch problem. Some of the things that cause a mismatch are: changes to your windows account, malware or spyware, incorrect shutdown of your system, windows restore or a failed parsec update.

The solution is to clean out all your parsec installation files and reinstall. However, since ClickOnce installs applications in a user application cache folder this can be somewhat tricky.

First, try to uninstall parsec using Add/Remove application in windows control panel.

Next try running this from the command line:
rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache

Then Reboot and try to reinstall parsec.

If that does not work uninstall parsec again if it appears in the Add/Remove list then delete ALL the files in your application Cache. The application cache is located here on windows 8 (where <UserName> is your windows user name):
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\

Ok I did everything in the list and all went good till I reinstalled it poped up a window saying.

Windows cannot find
c:\users\trax\appdata\local\apps\2.0\ezdo2ya7.r95\y03vdj40.cnb\pars..tion_64beb0e316f56ed..\parsecclient.exe

make sure you typed the name correctly and try again.

does this help or just make it worse?

When did that pop up? When you clicked on the install link on the website or after it installed?

As it was installing. seemed to be at just about the end.

try these steps in this order:

Uninstall parsec using add/remove

run this from command line (be sure to run command line as an administrator by right clicking and run as admin)
rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache

delete everything in this folder:
C:\Users\trax\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\

reboot

run this from command line again
rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache

reboot

install parsec from this link:
https://parsec.codeplex.com/downloads/get/clickOnce/ParsecClient.application

I hate ClickOnce because of problems like this. Absolute mess. I plan on replacing it as soon as I can.

I went through all these steps, get to the end, tells me it can't find the file still. Norton pops up (note: this only started happening after Norton decided that Parsec was malware a few days ago, after having it on this computer for around three months or so), and tells me parsecclient.exe isn't safe and was removed (I never got an option to say no to that). I check the file extension and sure enough it seems to be the file that Windows said it couldn't find (though that notification came before Norton said it deleted the file, dunno why that is).

Went in and restored the file anyway and I can run parsec now, but if it turns out it's really malware, I'm gonna be mad at you! :P
